"B" camera... - ok, I just saw a 36" (916 mm) f8 lens on eBay with a huge leaf shutter - 36/8 = 4.5" iris!
Someone bought it...I guess it's a good thing I didn't for a lotta reasons. I have found some more info since I inquired guessing about KS-87's...it was a wrong guess. The camera is was trying to find out about (this is related to cameramaking...be patient) turned out to be a KA-45 made by Chicago Aerial Industries (Now Recon Optical, CAI Division). They built two mockup ones from surplus parts and loaned them to the movie production for "13 Days". My reason for inquiry into this is a surplus place has an electric shutter from this era they claim to be capable of 1/60 to 1/1500 second but no wiring instructions...motors of who knows what variety and gears etc. CAI couldn't provide hookup info but they seemed to recall it only doing 1/25, 1/50 and 1/100...this sounds like a spring shutter to me... I would consider buying one if I had some technical/wiring info...you'd think that stuff must be documented somewhere...I might learn something about shutter design just from lookin at it, but if I can't get it running, it's a paperweight. I just won an eBay auction for an Aero-Ektar 24" f6(6-11) that includes the shutter...to go with it's cousin 309 f/2.5...this isn't a hobby, it's a disease! I started out interested in 35 mm pinhole and now look what kind of weird stuff I'm doing!
