I would sugest using a varactor / dimmer as in the things on the wall if you are looking to reduce illumination. They are a lot cheaper and a lot smaller than a hunka iron and copper. You can buy a metal electrical box to mount it in and power cords etc all at the same place.
Of course if you are using other than 120V lights this would not be a good idea....but why use a non 120v light? Not just any transformer will give you a constant voltage. If constant voltage / constant illumination is your concern then I would change over to a DC bulb and buy a regulated DC supply. Most likely this is would be cheaper and a lot lighter than a self regulating transformer. A truck lamp would be cheap and relativly bright and run at 24V I believe. If you have a junk computer where the power supply is OK you can use it's 12V output perhaps and use a 12V car lamp. Self regulating transformers are larger than expected for the power rating because they have additional windings that " lose" energy when the magnetic flux gets to high, thus keeping the voltage in regulation. They generally run hotter because of this and size helps dissipate the lost energy as well. _______________________________________________ Cameramakers mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://rmp.opusis.com/mailman/listinfo/cameramakers
