Find as you Type is great! How can I have it on all the time?
Add user_pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart", true); to your user.js preference file.

Just as an FYI, I have a "Mozilla generated" file called prefs.js in the folder that holds my prefs (xxxx.sit). This line will also function added to that file.
