In the past i'd tried every which-way to get dragging to work and couldn't, but it seems that at present anyway, quickly moving the mouse will indeed allow me to drag text. Perhaps in my recent tests i had paused, expecting the pointer to become a hand or something. Very refreshing.

"I've just had a look at the text dragging behaviour in the 2003090602 NB. As far as I can tell, the problem is that if you hold down the mouse button for too long before starting to drag, the selected text is not dragged. If you move the mouse immediately upon pressing the button, the text is dragged as expected."
Confirmed on my 2003102915 version of Camino on 10.3.1
