that's not gonna happen, we use gecko's network layer to retreive them and load them at startup by telling it to only pull from the cache (so we don't hit the network needlessly).
that'll be a lot of work to do w/out using necko.

From a user perspective, it's quite frustrating to see your favicons coming and going.
I suggest that in the road between 0.8 and 1.0 some people try to evaluate if that lot of work is achievable. I think it's worth to bring this issue up again before the BIG release.
