Uhm, I know this isn't probably a Camino-only issue. I just checked and, as I expected, I found that the autocomplete attribute is NOT present in the HTML spec.
I actually understand it has some use in certain types of sites, but I'm wondering if a browser should support it.

It probably should, but there should definitely be an override (I'd say even if it WERE in the spec). But since it ISN'T in the spec, maybe that preference could be "legitimately" (whatever that means) moved to the Privacy pane, instead of buried in the userPrefs.js file for the techies to edit?

Basically, browsers were/are given two choices: support autocomplete=off, or be locked out of many internet banking sites. Users don't care about the standards, they care about being able to

So then it was a voluntary-but-coerced thing like the movie ratings system (in the US that is). But if banking sites wanted this, why didn't they then go to the W3C and ASK (nicely) that it be added. Yes, it would take time, as all bureaucracies do (and even the W3C is one, AFAIK). But they still could have gone on with the usage of MS's "embrace-and-extend" strategy while still waiting for the RFC to be processed by W3C. If W3C said no, then.. they have a problem. But that shouldn't stop them from asking, especially if they got a coalition of about 20 different banks together to do it.
