My idea is to get away from the menu bar since items in the Bookmark Menu are hidden from view until you pull the menu down. The Toolbar Menu is visible all the time no matter where your application window is.

I do exactly the same thing, a handfull of folders in my toolbar. Perhaps it's time to consider merging the bookmarks menu with the Go menu? When people's browsing habits chanie the browser has to change with them. I'd also prefer the menus sorted alphabetically, it's espetially useful for long menus, you can type the first few letters to find what you're looking for.

Where exactly would you type to access the Bookmark Menus?

Alphabetic sorting of Bookmarks has been discussed in depth before and I think there are some solid reasons why this has not and is not likely to be implemented. You'd have to look back thru the list archives to find the discussion.

However what would make the task easier is if we could add a separator or spacer to the Bookmark Bar the way we can to the Tool Bar. Maybe this idea has been proposed before and thrown out. Any comments?
