I'm using 0.8.1 and neither choosing the menu item, nor typing cmd-H will hide it.
My installation of Camino, version 0.8.1, built 25 / 08 / 2004, seems to have no problem in this regard, CMD+H and the Hide menu command both work as expected.
As a matter of interest are all other applications already hidden? The OSX environment will not allow all applications to be hidden simultaneously, and the last unhidden application will ignore the hide command. I am not sure what enforces this rule, presumably the Window Server, and I have no idea if there is a way to override it, but it is definitely the case. Just a thought.
