Same thing happens for me on 10.4.x with Camino Version 2006020308 (1.0+) also. (Search box is in upper right corner of that page but only appears with mouse-over.)

I'm using Version 2006020309 (1.0rc1) under 10.4.4. Honestly, this works exactly correctly. The "Search" box is there... however, one MUST mouse over to click and make the text entry active. The entry box then "lights up" meaning that is ready to accept input.

When I say "correctly," I mean it seems to work the way it was intended to work, i.e. it works almost exactly the same way as the "Google" search box in Camino's menubar. i.e. it shows the word "Google" in light gray text. You must mouse over and click to enter a term, at which time you get a blank box with a blinking text cursor indicating it's ready to accept text entry. Digg.com works exactly the same way, initially the box has a light blue "Search" text that on mouse-over and click becomes a "normal" text entry box.
