They, themselves were never MacOS-like. Anything i've seen them used
for could be done better another way.

Regardless of whether you like them, they are a major Cocoa/Aqua
feature.
"Keeping them out of" any Mac OS X app only makes the app look
lame, badly
thought-out and NOT MacOS-like.
