This may have already been hashed out on this list, or in the BugZilla tree of new feature requests, but has it been suggested to have a "web feature" to only play Flash presentations ONCE (if there is a way to tell when the plugin is finished, that is)? Or not at all, until you tell them too?

I see this as quite similar to the option to only play animated GIFs once - many ads are moving to flash animations, which 1) are downright annoying once you see them once (or less than once in many cases), and 2) take an enormous amount of processing power, especially if there are several on the same page.. I'm on the 'MyCokeRewards" page, which uses one for it's main page "flag", and I think one or two of the ads use them too.. It slows down absolutely everything (well, having Mail download in the background, and Spotlight indexing behind that doesn't help, but still), including THE UI elements (<rant> why can't Apple put the Cocoa widget graphical code in it's own thread that gets top priority above EVERYTHING except for network and optical disk accesses that must have data fed to them, and the highest-level interrupt code like screen and device access?)

I wonder if we're seeing "Flash ads" as a "backlash" against animated gifs (which people may turn off) - in which case it's a worse than before, as Flash consumes more processor power than animated gifs did, and maybe more bandwidth as well (depending on how complex the animation is)
