Thanks Mathieu. Having never built something for Android, some guide to how to go about that would be useful. Can you point me to the uploader source and some docs for how is go about that?

And given that it's just camput behind the scenes, if need be you can just add more log.Print* statements to wherever needed (pkg/client, cm/camput), rebuild the app, and retry. rinse and repeat. Just in case that wasn't clear, you run adb logcat from your computer, with your phone usb plugged on it. you probably need usb dev debugging enabled on the phone, or whatever it's called.
