If you started solids, you have already started weaning her. You have 3 choices,
child led weaning, mommy led weaning, or a combination mommy/child. I have always
done a combinations weaning. If there is one feeding I can't stand nursing anymore,
we give it up when they hit about 12 months, if there is one time the baby still loves
to nurse, we give that one up last. As solids and juices are introduced, you baby is
slowly weaning, you can take up to another year or two before you wean, they now
recommend you nurse until age 2 (min. 1 year) I have always recommend at least 18
months from things I have read. It is easier to nurse older babies over 1, as they
don't need to nurse quite as often. Also when they are teething or sick, for instance
Briana had the flu last week, I would have been afraid to feed her solids, least she
choke when throwing up, and juice makes you throw up more, so it was nice to nurse
her, and she got well fast. Does this help? ml

That's wonderful! My DD was only BF'd until 3 months and after I quit she seemed
to get sick non stop. I don't know if it is coincidence or not. The daycare Brenden
just started going to has hand food mouth going around and so far *knock on wood* he
has not gotten it. I'm hoping the fact that he is still BFing will help! Another
perk of BFing!! :-)

With thought Briana was going to wean herself at about 11 - 12 months, but
then at 12 months she got started again, and nurses almost as much as her sister.
Whenever she is sick or teething, she nurses nonstop. Daddy is proud how fast they
get over being sick, we all got the flu, Briana first, but she got over, all 3 boys,
and Anabelle never got sick, I was sick too, and dh thinks my antibodies were in
Anabelle that is why she never got it, and sister barely had it. All my kids were
over it in 24-48 hours, where lots of people had it for 4 days. And 2 of my boys had
not been sick in several years before last week. ml
