   New Movies
 A Break From Blockbusters -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531446084658B4F3FB2216D0
For those seeking a respite from summer blockbusters, adult drama "We Don't Live Here
Anymore
- http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531416384658B4F3FB2216D0
" is a good bet. Weekend's Michael O'Sullivan calls it "searingly real." Fans of
"Donnie Darko
- http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531426284658B4F3FB2216D0
" will be pleased to see the director's cut in theaters this weekend, which Weekend's
Desson
Thomson says is "as fabulous and enjoyable as ever." Watch the "Darko" trailer here -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531406D84658B4F3FB2216D0
, and read our online discussion with "Darko" director Richard Kelly here -

  Get 'Dazed' at Midnight -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531456984658B4F3FB2216D0
Before you head back to school, experience the last day of school in 1976 with
midnight screenings
of "Dazed and Confused" Friday and Saturday nights at Bethesda's Landmark -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531466884658B4F3FB2216D0
theater. You may keep getting older, but this movie stays the same age.

An Excellent Day for an Exorcism -

   Bar Scene
 Guerilla Queer Bar - http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531429684658B4F3FB2216D0
They're here, they're queer, they want a beer. Every month, a few hundred gay and
lesbian bar
crawlers pick a "straight" establishment -- this time it's Riverside Grille -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531479184658B4F3FB2216D0
-- and descend en masse. The results are surprising.

After the Show: Au Pied Bistro -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531489084658B4F3FB2216D0
There's a new place to grab post-clubbing eats in Georgetown, complete with a large
garden
patio. If the name sounds familiar, you'll know what to expect: French fare until 4 or
5 in
the morning.

  Restaurant Reviews
 Palette - http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531459384658B4F3FB2216D0
This recently made-over spot inside the Madison Hotel looks marvelous and is often
packed with
marvelous looking people, but the food isn't quite up to par. Tom Sietsema is
impressed by
the seafood, but finds most of the dishes sound nice and taste fine, but are not
"something
you are likely to talk up back at the office." One star.

  Mikaku Sushi Taro - http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531469284658B4F3FB2216D0
The sushi is fine, but it's not why Eve Zibart calls this Herndon restaurant "one of
the more
tempting" Japanese dining spots in town. She says be sure to check out the otsumami
(seasonal
small plates), such as grilled squid, as well as the fresh house-made udon noodles and
the
chewier buckwheat soba noodles.

 West Virginia State Fair -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531459C84658B4F3FB2216D0
Which state fair is the best state fair? We have a few to judge; first up, West
Virginia. Next
weekend, it's Maryland -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531429F84658B4F3FB2216D0
's turn.

The gifted songstress brings her laid-back jazz and pop to Merriweather -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531499984658B4F3FB2216D0
. And just think, two years ago she was playing IOTA!

  Music: The Shakedowns -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531409884658B4F3FB2216D0
There will be riffs aplenty at the Black Cat -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531469B84658B4F3FB2216D0
as these up-and-coming garage rockers share a bill with Five Maseratis and the Ready
Steady
Go!

  Friday Through Sunday
 Last Train Home Weekend -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531479A84658B4F3FB2216D0
What would possess someone to quit a fantastic job like "Nightlife" columnist for The
Washington
Post? For Eric Brace, life on the road with his excellent roots-rock band Last Train
Home was
too good to pass up. The band has progressed far past simply being a "local favorite"
and brings
its finely honed sound to IOTA -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531458584658B4F3FB2216D0
for three shows, including an all-ages matinee on Sunday.

  Signing Out With 'Oz' -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531468484658B4F3FB2216D0
The NIH Film Festival comes to a close this weekend, with screenings of "Chicago"
(Friday),
"Back to the Future" (Saturday) and "The Wizard of Oz" (Sunday). Screenings are free,

http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531438784658B4F3FB2216D0
, within walking distance of the Grosvenor Metro.

  Saturday

http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531448684658B4F3FB2216D0
The whole family can get in the groove at this daylong concert on the RFK Stadium -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531498184658B4F3FB2216D0
grounds. Featured acts include Mase, E.U. and Sugar Bear, Amel Larrieux and Boyz II
Men.

  Music: Enon - http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531408084658B4F3FB2216D0
The Warehouse Next Door -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531478384658B4F3FB2216D0
hosts one of today's more enjoyable indie-rock acts. The group's sound is never too
straightforward,
but never too self-indulgently weird.

  Saturday and Sunday
 Virginia Wine Festival -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531488284658B4F3FB2216D0
More than 50 of the state's leading wineries come together at Long Branch Plantation -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531468D84658B4F3FB2216D0
for two days of food, music and unlimited sampling. Be smart and take public
transportation;
we have all the details on shuttle buses and organized bus trips in our This Week in
Nightlife
- http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531478C84658B4F3FB2216D0 column.

  Sunday
 Music: Amy Rigby - http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531448F84658B4F3FB2216D0
Amy Rigby might often be labeled a folkie, but her offbeat songs about life as a
middle-aged
woman have a somewhat punk feeling to them. Her show at IOTA -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531458E84658B4F3FB2216D0
should appeal to fans of early Liz Phair or Aimee Mann.

  Music: Rock Prendido -
http://letters.washingtonpost.com/W7RT04531418984658B4F3FB2216D0
Latin rock fusion from Kinky, Del Castillo and L.A.'s Ozomatli at Nation -
