** TOP STORIES **
HURRICANE 2004: For the first time in weeks, people in Southwest Florida were able
Sunday to enjoy what brought many of them here in the first place the weather. With
Hurricane Ivan looking less and less likely to inflict major damage on Lee County,
residents saw the sunny skies and palatable temperatures not as a calm before the
storm but as a chance for life to return to some semblance of normalcy
HURRICANE 2004: Plywood lost its popularity Sunday. But there's not been a run yet on
dairy products and frozen food. The stocked bread aisles and availability of gasoline
Sunday were an indication that Southwest Florida residents have taken a sigh of
relief. But the plywood boards and shuttered windows are still up. Area residents and
businesses haven't forgotten about Hurricane Ivan.
MICHAEL PELTIER: Hurricane Ivan may or not make landfall in Southwest Florida, but the
killer storm and others are posing questions for lawmakers who may not be able to wait
until March to come up with answers. Gov. Jeb Bush last week said it was likely
lawmakers would return to Tallahassee shortly after the November elections. They will
have a couple pressing issues to address: How to cushion the financial one-two-three
punch of hurricanes Charley, Frances and Ivan and how to address the long-term housing
needs of citizens.
COCONUT ROAD: When Lee County commissioners discussed surrendering county ownership of
a so-called viewers road last week, they may have provided a tone for this week's
meeting. Bonita Springs-based WCI Communities Inc., the developers of Pelican Landing
and the largest builder of planned gated communities in Florida, has plans to build a
private marina at the western end of Coconut Road on the banks of Estero Bay.
** PERSPECTIVE **
EDITORIAL: City sidewalks, city sidewalks. But they're not dressed up in holiday style
this time, as Old Naples residents and city politicians grope for direction on whether
to expand the sidewalk network. Balance is sought between safety for pedestrians and
motorists on roads such as Gulf Shore Boulevard, while heeding the wishes of residents
who do not relish pedestrians coming through their front yards.

** SPORTS **
TOM HANSON: Hopefully this time, Miami Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt has made a final
decision. On Sunday, Wannstedt named A.J. Feeley the Dolphins' starting quarterback
for next week's contest in Cincinnati.

** BUSINESS **
HEATING UP: A fast-growing $160 million-a-year Tex-Mex fast-food chain is bulking up
in Southwest Florida. Moe's Southwest Grill, an Atlanta-based company with a Naples
connection, has plans to open two more of its offbeat restaurants in Southwest Florida
by the fall of 2005, bringing the total to three. Three more are expected after that.
But that's just a ripple on the flexing muscles of the national up-and-coming giant
whose vice president, Matt Andrew, and local franchise owner Mike Silverman, both
graduated from Naples High.

** NEAPOLITAN **
RIDER ON THE STORM: Eric Harris is nuts. He admits it. Well, actually, he prefers the
term "adrenaline junkie" to being considered certifiably crazy. But still, he does
understand if people think his storm chasing ways are a bit odd. Even his supportive
wife wonders what makes this man wander the streets in order to locate the perfect
storm. "I've always been interested in adrenaline flows," says the 38-year-old Naples
resident; a little Florida cracker twang seeping into his words.
