Wireless Carriers Enter the Sports Scene

It had to happen. As color screens, faster networks and more
capable devices make mobile video more robust, wireless
carriers have begun finding new partners in sports and
entertainment companies. Where early partnerships focused on
delivering such things as sports scores and racing updates
to cell phones in simple text messages, the companies are
now looking for ways to take advantage of the audio and
video capabilities built into cell phones and mobile
handhelds like the Treo.

The sports companies get new venues to deliver promotion,
programming and advertising, and the carriers get a boost
from life-saving new revenue streams, one analyst believes.
