Your Host Steven Haines

I read an interesting press release last week announcing that Betfair, an online gambling site in the UK, evaluated .NET and J2EE and decided to rebuild their ASP-based site in J2EE using JBoss.

On InformIT this week Virendra Mehta presents an article on how to properly use exceptions from a performance perspective, and we have a sample chapter from Java Garage by Eben Hewitt discussing Why Java Interfaces Are So VERY Cool.

I updated the Java Reference Guide to include the third segment in our Hibernate series that discusses the persistence of our generated Java object to our generated database schema. In a relatively small amount of code you can seamlessly persist Java objects without having to think strictly in terms of a relational database. Next week we will look at object relationships and see how much time Hibernate can really save us!

Weblog of the Week: 1.5 or 5.0 or what!?!?

To summarize, it's not Java 1.5 and it's not Java 5, it's Java 2 5.0, got it? If not, Steve Haines explains.
