IOC-IBP Merger Hits Roadblock
The Indian Oil Corporation and IBP merger is off, at least for a while. Sources
indicate that there is a rethink on the proposal in light of certain taxation and
accounting issues. Company officials, however, refused to clarify whether this would
lead only to a delay in the process, or it being shelved.

States All Set For VAT By April 2005: Chidambaram
With 17 states ready with their value-added tax bills, finance minister P Chidambaram
is hopeful of introducing a nation-wide VAT regime from April 1, 2005. The remaining
