I have used persistence frameworks to persist a "society of
transient-
identity collaborating objects" which exists on a local process,
but 
for distributed computing and following simple design, I no longer 
distribute objects. In fact, old structured design techniques work 
quite well with service-orientation in mind on the distributed design 
level.
