They are not really love bugs, but airplane bugs because they fly United! And there is no love, because the female, which is bigger than the male, hauls him around until he dies, then hunts another male. Something like a few of our ladies do with their men. Birds won't eat them, and when they splatter on your car's paint it is wise to scrub them off, or, as Possum said, paint remover flows in their tiny bodies. When I was traveling in the sixties, the hood of my ford van was eaten through by the acid of their bodies. I had to stop and clean the windshield so I could see to drive a few more miles. So, you see, they ain't LOVE bugs. Folks hate 'em!! Thank God they are not so bad any more, but now come along twice a year instead of just once.
