BUSH, KERRY SPAR OVER BIN LADEN VIDEO
John Kerry criticized President Bush on Friday for failing to capture Osama bin Laden
as a new videotape of the terrorist leader surfaced just before the election. Bush
accused the Democrat of "shameful" second-guessing in the face of threats by America's
deadly foe. The broadcast of the bin Laden tape jolted the campaign's closing days,
accentuating the terrorism theme with a reminder of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and
Kerry revived his contention that Bush missed an opportunity to capture or kill bin
Laden during the Afghan war.

PLANS WOULD CHANGE LOOK OF DOWNTOWN BONITA AREA
In 68 highly detailed pages, The RMPK Group sets out the most significant and
ambitious plan yet to revitalize what it calls the "heart and soul" of Bonita Springs:
Old 41 Road. The much-anticipated study suggests a slew of projects intended to draw
people to the downtown area, such as building a massive public library, a waterfront
shopping district and creating up to 1,431 parking spaces.

MCCAIN: BIN LADEN VIDEO SHOWS NEED TO RE-ELECT BUSH
U.S. Sen. John McCain said the Osama bin Laden video flogging the country's foreign
policies that aired Friday is a strong argument for the need to re-elect President
George W. Bush. The Republican Party star from Arizona swooped through Naples on
Friday night to cheer the Collier County GOP faithful at a public event at the Telford
Center at Naples Community Hospital.

CASTOR, MARTINEZ DUEL OVER JOBS, IRAQ IN FIGHT FOR VOTES
PANAMA CITY Democrat Betty Castor and Republican Mel Martinez tangled over jobs and
the war in Iraq again Friday as both appealed to voters in the Florida Panhandle in
their tight race for the U.S. Senate. Castor focused on economic issues, promising to
secure manufacturing jobs that are at risk of being sent overseas, and took a swipe at
Martinez for outsourcing by La-Z-Boy Inc. Martinez is on the company's board of
directors.

PERSPECTIVE:

EDITORIAL: COLLIER COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD
Trust. That is what Collier County School Board member Kathleen Curatolo says she
wanted to build at a board meeting this week to set goals for the new superintendent.
Holding such an important meeting in a bank rather than a public administrative
center, with ample meeting and parking space and live TV cameras, is at odds with that
mission.

BUSINESS:

A LOCAL UNIVISION TO ADD TO SPANISH-LANGUAGE TV
Hispanic television options continue to grow in Southwest Florida. Little Rock,
Ark.-based Equity Broadcasting plans to start a local Univision affiliate and another
Univision-owned network, TeleFutura, in the area. Comcast and Time Warner carry
Univision, but those are national feeds with no local programming. Equity does not
have deals with the two cable providers to carry the local affiliate but is pursuing
it, said Gregory Fess, senior vice president.

NEAPOLITAN:

REFLECTIONS FROM BROKEN GLASS
What happened to her is insignificant in the scheme of things. Lorie Mayer doesn't
even usually talk about it. Yes, she was a child living in a Berlin suburb as the
Holocaust erupted around her. And, yes, she witnessed and endured Nazi wrath from
simple name calling to murder in front of her innocent eyes. But Mayer somehow escaped
it all when so many others didn't. She shakes her head at the irony. When so many
others faced the worst horrors, she was somewhat safe.
