Govt bites the bullet, fires fuel & LPG prices
After holding consumer prices for three months on inflationary and political concerns,
the government this evening approved one of the steepest hikes in prices of petrol,
diesel and cooking gas on the grounds that oil firms were suffering due to high global
prices. These hikes are significantly more hefty than what the Petroleum Ministrys
earlier proposal had suggested: raising petrol by Rs 1.50 per litre and diesel by Rs
1.

20 yrs on, 1984 gets a brush with Manjit Bawa
Violence and massacre arent themes you associate with artist Manjit Bawas bright,
colourful and often unquestioningly flat surfaces. But 20 years after Indira Gandhis
assassination and the massacre of Sikhs in the capital, the artist is ready with five
frames. They capture, for the first time, what he says is his immeasurable pain
over the anti-Sikh riots, the agony of witnessing the murder of his own people,
the killings in Gujarat, 9/11 and even the Beslan school killings.
