you can use either of the function modules download, ws_download or gui_download basing on your requirement and the version you are in.

I have to get the output of a query and write it in application server as a DAT file. Is there any Function module to do this.
I am writing a report which execute the query when the name of the query is given in selection screen along with variant.
The Approach is 
1) SUBMIT (query_name) ...... EXPORTING to MEMORY
2) Use Function Module LIST_TO_MEMORY and get the output into internal table.
3) Function Module that transfers the output from memory to application server as DAT File.
 
 
Can anybody suggest a function module for this.
or any method to cater to this requirement
