Can't we all just get along?

IT vendors seem to be taking a page out of the playbooks of
presidential candidates these days - that is, they're heavy into
attack ads. Badmouthing competitors seems to be a staple among
IT vendors - and that's a tactic that could backfire, as
Technology Executive newsletter author Linda Musthaler points
out in a special column.

Behold VMware

VMware is hotter than Georgia asphalt, as they say, and Mark
Gibbs felt the heat when he went to the recent VMworld 2004
conference. The throngs of attendees, the range of innovation
among VMware partners - find out why you need to know more about
this virtualization technology in Gibbs' Backspin column this
week.

Return of the browser wars?

Believe it or not, Microsoft is actually losing market share.
People are trying open source browsers - and they're sticking
with them. While no one is suggesting that this will lead to the
downfall of Microsoft, 'Net Buzz columnist Paul McNamara points
to some interesting facts.

Microsoft calling

Speaking of Microsoft, the company might not mind losing a
little market share among browsers when it could more than make
up for it by getting into a whole new market: IP telephony.
Guest columnist Nick Lippis says it's not a question of "if"
Microsoft gets involved, it's a question of "when" - and to what
degree.
