I've done four of the headliners with foam backing with no problems.
(Other than the mess.)The surface must be completely cleaned of old
adhesive and foam.
Use a plastic cleaning brush. On Fiberglass backing material it's
important to use a brush that isn't too stiff. It'll tear up the
weave otherwise. I use a shop vac to keep old adhesive powder/foam
remains under control. The cardboard type backing isn't as much of a
problem.
Spend the money and get the Good 3M spray adhesive. The other stuff
doesn't work. It's all in the prep and the glue.
