Confirm all that Steve says. You can't book the council's own berths
in advance, so one of the marinas would probably be a better bet.
Our last visit was in 2002 since when I believe the helpful people at
the Anglo Welsh hire base at the Cumberland Basin have moved on. A
colleague moored for a while at Saltford Marina [twixt Bristol & Bath
- 01225 872226] and was generally happy - they have all services.
It might be handy to have a back-up plan in case the Avon is up.
Bath Narrowboats [01225 447276]
<http://www.bath-narrowboats.co.uk/>
at the top of the Widcombe flight are cheery and helpful but have a
tiny site and probably couldn't help much on a Friday while they're
turning round hire boats. There's a BW card-operated pump-out
machine at the Dundas Aqueduct and the adjacent boatyard on the
Somerset Coal Canal has all services but want you to book in advance
[01225 722069]. The winding space at the end of the canal is limited
to 60', but using the services would be a good way to tick off that
particular waterway.
