Hello to all - I just wanted thank all the members of this group who so kindly answered all my questions back in March when I was planning our trip on the M&B. We went out on June 3 and returned June 10th. We had glorious sunshine the entire time. The scenery on this canal was sooo beautiful! I believe it would be difficult to top. We did not use radios. Our hand signals were enough, including a couple of rude ones when the men were navigating a couple of really bendy spots! We went from Goytre Wharf to Brecon and back. There were so many special moments on the trip but here are a few in no particular order: * Our first lock - We were a bit nervous, but it turned out to be easy peasy. * Gilwern Bridge - Got stuck on the flange of the projecting pipe- a bunch of lads at the pub had a jolly good time taking the Mickey out of us, but then helped out by coming aboard to add enough weight to lower us to get unstuck! * Ashford Tunnel. Scary to me (I hate spiders). My hubby navigated both directions and did a great job. * In Brecon my husband found the house his Granny lived in many years ago- 3 Charles Street. * Enjoyed all the pubs but especially the Star and White Hart in Talybont. * Enjoyed a lovely afternoon in Crickhowell. * Spent the evening of the 8th of June (my Hubby's birthday) at the Horseshoe Inn in LLangattock where a group of his friends from Rhuderin near Newport came up for a party. By the way, the landlord there is a real character! * Saw lots of wildlife. Blue herons (I think), hawks, hundreds of duck families, cows, sheep, bats, one mink (dead in a lock!). No otters, I'm sorry to say. * In all this peace and quiet we were surprised to have RAF planes whooshing overhead with much speed and noise. Not complaining though, we rather enjoyed seeing them. Anyway- we had a wonderful time and were sorry our week was up. Thanks again to all who were so helpful!!
