Day 8 - Saturday 1st July 2006

At about 22:30 two fire engines came along the road and stopped near the
pub. A garage was on fire across the way. They soon put it out, and relative
quiet descended again. I don't know what caused it.

The hire boat left the moorings this morning at 6am. They didn't rev the
engine this time at least. We got up at about 10:30, and now we wait for
Julie to arrive. She called at about 13:00, saying that she was leaving. She
only had directions to Stoke on Trent, so we had to devise another route to
get her here at Milton.

At about 14:00 a group of late teens, early 20 somethings came into the beer
garden. One of them tried to get into the BW workboat moored only a couple
of feet in front. He soon gave in, but later after finding the remains of a
boat hook tried to prise the hatch open. He was trying for a good few
minutes, until a police siren made him turn around and see me watching him
from inside the boat, when he gave up and went back to the group sat at the
table. These idiots act like errant six year olds.

Julie arrived at 16:10, just in time for the beginning of the England
Portugal game, and so we passed the luggage through a gap in the wall. A van
was blocking the gate, so, while we waited we went shopping.

We had to wait until the football finished before getting the van moved, and
we finally got underway at 19:30. We stopped just below the locks at
Stockton Brook at 21:30.
