Not practical at any time or place IMHO. I've moved house a few times, and the normal trick, to keep the cat, is to keep it in for a fortnight - then it is unlikey to try to wander home. As time progresses, the cat slowly decides on a plan of action looking for any weak spot in the defences - and just when you least expect it, and through some small opening you thought was safe - whoosh, they're out. We had a cat that was three days in a new house, there was a tiny window 7ft from the ground, nothing to climb, we had it open a crack - the cat came down the stairs shot across the hall at full tilt and ran straight up the wall, hit the window stay with a bang, and was out. Took us *seven* days of wandering around the estate every evening, shaking boxes of munchies, before we found her about 3/4 mile from home.
