I think like everything there are ways to move off early and ways not to! 
The ones who start the engine 30 minutes before they're ready to depart, 
bang around, shout fromend to end of the boat and finally roar off are beign 
antisocial. The ones who do everthing quietly, are ready to go before 
starting up, and then potter steadily up the cut until they're clear are 
fine.

We've made early starts often enough and doubt we ever disturbed anyone to 
any extent. I seem to recall on occasions we didn't actually start the 
engine until the boat was untied and mid-cut but then genuine marine Listers 
(!) are good starters!
