Anything between pleasantly warm and freezing! We used to have a 1/12th
share in a boat, and the last week of October (school half-term) was one
of our regular weeks. We often had lovely warm days; T-shirts and shorts
on occasions.
By contrast, last October, on a weekend trip on our own boat, we had to
break solid ice for 5 miles! So be prepared for anything.

Well, I'm biased as our boat is moored 'the other way'. If you go through
Braunston (6 wide locks), you can experience Braunston tunnel, then turn
left at Norton Junction and ascend Watford locks (a flight of 7 narrow
locks). You've then got 20+ miles of glorious lock-free cruising before
getting to the top of Foxton locks. There are villages along the way with
reasonable eateries (Crick, Yelvertoft, Welford). If you don't fancy going
as far as Foxton there are plenty of winding holes along the way to turn
round.
I dare say there'll be plenty of alternative suggestions before long...
Enjoy your trip.
