Binsey to Osney via Cassington Cut mouth
Crew : Mike, Wendy, cats Tilly& Mandy

Both cats were on board when we woke up, with Mandy very firmly asleep -
we assumed she'd had some energetic excursions during the night. We weren't
ready for the off when Nick wanted to go, so we let Hood slip out from
inboard and Nick's partner pulled us back in to the jetty. Then I went down
the weed-hatch to clear what was left of yesterday's crop - about 8 foot of
fairly thick rope. Fortunately it was thick enough for the topology of its
winding round the blades to be feelable and therefore un-do-able.

At 11:14 we set of on a short trip up-river and back. Above King's lock we
found Kim Russell of nb "Indus" (we know him as one of the coal boats in
London during the winter) working as a Summer Assistant Lock-keeper. We'd
noticed "Indus" moored just above the lock when we came through a few days
ago. Kim was selling diesel at 50p/litre, so we filled up with 272 litres.
Continuing upstream, we winded just near the mouth of Cassington Cut to head
into Oxford.

At 14:12 The moorings between Osney bridge and the lock appeared full, but
we saw Rodney & Wendy Evans' "Scythia" there (a boat we'd moored with on our
visit to IWA Milton Keynes Branch earlier in the year), so breasted up to
them. They were off the boat at the time, but we chatted briefly with them
when they returned from their lunch out.

DAY'S RUN 9.2 MILES, 4 LOCKS IN 2 HRS 44 MIN
