Good news - several major canal restoration projects are among ten funding
bids with at least some waterway relevence that have made it into the last 29
'shortlisted' projects for the Big Lottery Fund Living Landmarks grants.
They include the Cotswolds Phase 1b (Saul - Stonehouse), restoration of the
North Wilts Canal as part the Cricklade Country Way scheme, reopening the
difficult section of the Mon & Brec through Cwmbran, and building the west end
of the proposed new Bedford - Milton Keynes Waterway in MK.
Still no guarantee that any of them will get the money - there seems to be only
about enough money in the pot to fund maybe a quarter of the shortlisted
projects. But given the large proportion of canal bids that have made it this
far (considering that overall we're down to oinly 3% of the original
applications), I think there's a good chance that at least one of them will get
a grant.
I've put some more info about it on the News section of www.canalboatmag.co.uk.
