Laugh... Did I!...

Yesterday (Sat), quietly enjoying a nice day on the towpath opposite the
marina (dogs like to stretch their legs on the grass, so we move over
there - doggie bags to the ready, before anyone starts...)
Not one, not two, but three hire boats trundle down the prees branch (maybe
"because it's there"!), anyway with a nice *strong* wind from behind they
try to turn... The last one was the best - long boat, full speed down the
cut and tried to turn at speed, loadsa throttle, and full tiller, and
surprise, surprise the boat slowly turns and then goes sideways with the
wind - full astern, full ahead, full astern (it must have been a good design
of boat, because there was some steering effect in reverse, although the
monkey driving it, never moved the tiller from its hard over position),
anyway (it get better) the two guys on the back start shouting to the two
women in the front (and not none of these four I guess is under 65), with
the result that the two women struggle to get the pole and push the front
out (while the two captains stand at the back in command...), eventually the
captains realize that they might have to help, so the go forward to pole the
boat round and the one woman on the controls - as soon as the boat was
turned one guy rushed (such speed for an old guy) to the back to take
command of his tiller... Then full reverse (gearboxes are for abusing, of
course) and almost backed up the unnavigable section - if he had gone up
there, he might still be there now... realizing his mistake, back to full
ahead in a nanosecond... I shook my head and went back to my drink...
