Morning All,

Friday August 18th - Left Coxes Lock, when another boat came down the Wey
and it made sense to travel together. Thames lock was just closing for lunch
as we arrived. Just as well as it happens, it rained for most of the next
hour. The locky returned our cheque upon presentation of his hire lock key
and off we went back onto the Thames. Oh, LT was happy again, back on deep
water. A very short delay at Thames lock while a boat came through and we
were soon off again. The sun/rain came and went. Through Chertsey lock in 6
minutes, well done that lockman. Our destination for the next two days is
Penton Hook Marina. Arriving at 4.45pm, the very pleasant staff soon had us
booked in. This is the largest marina on the Thames is very secure and has
full facilities. For those interested, Thorpe Park is literally across the
road from the main gate. Eat on board, poor TV picture.

The Wey has been a wonderful experience and I would recommend this river
canal to everyone. The National Trust can be given 9/10 for the management
of the waterway navigation. The locks do need some attention, particularly
the paddles. A bit of grease would help. Signage needs to be improved.
Perhaps a little more of the bank could be cut back and towpath mooring made
a little more accessible, particularly in Godalming. All in all, please go,
spent the 49 quid for a week, you will be very pleased you made the effort.

Saturday August 19th - Woke late, got up late. Today is a polishing,
cleaning, boat maintenance, launderette, sort of day. At midday we are asked
to move moorings, apparently they mooring we have been put in belongs to the
ex commodore and he is returning from Holland today. No worries, in fact a
better mooring with a better TV picture. At 6pm my sister, who lives in
Woking, joins us for dinner in the clubhouse or not. No food tonight, chef
unavailable due to broken foot. A short car ride to Chertsey solves the
problem and we eat in a very nice bistro called Windsors. Back to the boat
11ish and slept very soundly.

Sunday 20th - Have decided to stay an extra day. Wendy is full of cold and I
can find plenty to keep me occupied. It's cold and grey and windy and
raining on and off. Off early tomorrow, destination Windsor.

Regards

Andrew & Wendy from The Cut
