Hi All,
Thursday 24th August - After much messing about, some of it in the rain,
managed to get a passable TV picture on BBC 1 and 2 and very snowy ITV, by
pointing the aerial in a different direction. Transmition here seems to be
via a sub transmitter, so vertical polarity was the order of the day. Only
one or two channels seems quite common down here. I wonder why all channels
are not available all the time with the aerial pointing in only one
direction? We can put men on the moon.........
This morning is grey and chilly. Winter draws on. We left Henley at 11.30am
after a morning of pottering and boatwork. Like housework, with smaller
rooms. Batteries seem to be standing up well, even though I left a light a
light on last night by mistake. Must put more water with it!. Boats started
to head up river very early this morning, the locky at Marsh lock said some
had gone through at 7.30am. We go through with just 3 other boats and they
are soon well ahead of us and we have the river to ourselves. Some more
fabulous houses through here and the chugg is very pleasant in the sunshine.
We catch up with the other boats at Shiplake lock and with 2 others that
have joined in. We are not in luck and the gates are shut in our bow. Now we
really are on our own. We are now moored at Sonning just below the bridge.
No room on the free ones when we arrive, so we will have to pay 5UKP.Wendy
has done a recki of facilities and found a pub. Whoopee eating out tonight.
No idea if there is a TV picture here, will have a play later. Tomorrow
Beale Park.
Regards
Andrew & Wendy from The Cut - Sonning, River Thames
