Having left Uncle Mort at Beale Park on Monday we returned today,
Thursday, for the start of our return journey to the G&S. Thanks are
due to the Millins for a final shuffle of UM to a bankside location and
very stout attachment to terra firma. We arrived at the now "empty bar
2 cars" layby adjacent to the river just after 9am, dropped some
baggage on board and then I took Mrs B back to downtown Pangbourne for
some minor provisioning.

I set off to drop the car at Warwick, an easy journey, and I was
waiting on Warwick Parkway platform by 11:15. The route to Pangbourne
involved changes at Banbury and Oxford and I was back on board by
13:40, and we extricated ourselves from the stout attachments and set
off before 14:30.

Messrs Wandering Snail were one of about 30 or so still lingering at
Beale Park. Ollie was off on the Enfield Bullet having some bushes
machined to facilitate the installation of the new alternator. I saw
Ann (and the little pooch) and she told me that Ollie still had plans
to do some tidal Thames in the near future. The little pooch put his
paws over his ears.

The only point of note during the afternoon was the hireboat that
developed propulsion deficiencies on exiting from Goring lock. We towed
him the short distance to Cleeve lock wherein he discovered that the
problem was internal to the morse control. He was last seen zig-sagging
around upstream of Cleeve water point while we pressed on to
Wallingford. There were no moorings so we ended up just upstream of
Shillingford Bridge.

Tomorrow we hope to reach Osney and find ourselves a city centre
mooring but although we had a clear journey today I am expecting
heavier traffic tomorrow comprised of laggards from the recent
Abingdon/Wilts & Berks gathering.

I'm wondering where our other Beale Park chums are - ahead of us
somewhere between here and Wigrams are, among others, Lord Toulouse,
Harnser, Pilgrim and Albion. We might overhaul Albion over the weekend
but I think the others will stay ahead of us.

Beeky
