Not the question  -  but don't forget that trains are running along an 
ex-canal every day here in Kent.  The Higham and Strood tunnels were 
originally built as part of the Gravesend and Rochester/Thames and Medway 
Canal, but are now used to carry the SouthEastern Train Company's services 
from London to the Medway towns and beyond.
