I have had the boat ten years and never had any problems with the BSS.
However I have never had the alarm go of before until the distilled water
got very low. Once it was topped up it stopped the problem until we returned
from our two week holiday and the batteries were being charged for the first
time in two weeks from the smart charger rather than the alternator. Last
weekend went to Stoke Bruerne and when we got to boat on Friday evening
charger was in float mode and only came back on when I switched on the
fridge.
I understand where you are coming from re venting but the batteries are
under the side bunk in the boatman's with vents on the front but there is
then ventilation in the engine room via the pigeon box and as I say I have
never had the problem before. The batteries are approximately five years old
(second set) and are 4x125 amps capacity and the alternator is 55 amp
output. The mastervolt battery regulator dial is showing all the normal
readings and everything worked OK last weekend when away from mooring and we
were down about 75 amps when we started back on Sunday.
Thanks Niall and Ron for your comments.
However I am still puzzled by all this. Do these alarms go faulty. Could it
be detecting something else although I do not know what it could be as we
have not lit the stove in months.
