With great regret we've just had to turn back at Oak Meadow Lock on the
Caldon: the Churnet was in the red sector on the board and still
rising. We walked some of the river section, and it didn't actually
look too bad - flowing at around 2 knots, I guess, but a) we don't know
the river, so ignoring clear warnings would be unwise, and b) we can't
afford to get stuck on the downstream side, as we need to be up Bosley
on the Macc before 6 Nov and the stoppages.
Heigh ho, Consall Forge will have to wait for another time.
