Although it isn't obvious there is a hydro-electric scheme at Beeston Weir on
the Trent. I'm not sure how much it generates but I think that it has been
there about four years.

There is also the remains of a water powered pump on the Slea at Haverholme
Lock. This was used in Victorian times, when Haverholme Priory was a large
country house, to pump water up to the house from the river.

Subject: [canals-list] Hydropower generated by Canals..

As far as I know little hydro power was generated from canals in the UK
because most are in areas of relatively limited rain (in the Midlands) -
for example the BCN depended to some extent on water pumped out of
coal-mines for drainage purposes. Netherton Tunnel was lit by a turbine
powered by the drop between the Old and New Main Lines.

AFAIK the Caledonian and Crinan Canals weren't exploited for hydropower,
despite their size and location.
