The M$ antivirus that I was referring to is the "Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool" that gets delivered as a critical update every month. I
believe it is based on RAV software that they bought a few years ago. It
runs the first time you reboot after an update. I haven't noticed huge
re-boot delays, so it can't be scanning the whole computer - probably just
checking the internal record of what programs and services have been running
recently.
Regarding fair usage on the Orange £1 unlimited deal, I spent several hours
on Saturday evening playing with Google Earth via GPRS. It's very slow, but
surprisingly usable considering they recommend a minimum of 128Kb broadband!
I forgot to check my data counters before starting, and I got cut off a
couple of times, but I think I may have used about 30-40 MB in the evening.
I made sure I switched off at 11:50pm before the midnight deadline!
Unfortunately our location on the Chichester Ship Canal was photographed by
satellite on a cloudy day - the area is almost completely obscured by white
fluffy clouds.
