I don't understand why farming is still subsidised in UK.  Really.

- It's a tiny part of the economy
- It's very inefficient
- It does terrible damage to the environment
- We can get the food we need elsewhere (cheaper, and from poor people
who really want the business)

I'd prefer subsidising the re-establishment of forests on most of the
current UK farmland.  Then we'd have a nice supply of hardwood for
boat fitouts!  It would help with global warming too.

Maybe the answer is to get rid of the (ex-)MAFF bit 100%.  Oh yeah -
the CAP might be a problem.
