Can any one tell me where I can buy a Barge Pole. I am based in the
South-east and all I can find is pine "stair hand rails". These are not
really suitable as I understand pine can snap under load and any way
have a flat on one side.

We use a 4.5m stair hand rail on Fulbourne, we abused it horribly for many
years before we managed to break it and even then we managed to repair it
using 'no more nails' and it still gives us good service.

Regular(ish) painting should stop it warping

Helps if you can find a canalside timber merchant to get it from, we had to
carry ours 'native style' through the streets of St Pancras!
