Come on AS. I was 5 years old and they was busses to me. And looking it up in 
the dictionary my wife says both buses and busses are valid plurals for bus - 
so there!
   
    On a related subject there was a mention of the poles used to reconnect the 
tram-pole to the overhead wire. They used a similar massive pole on our 
double-decker trolley buses. Here they were moving the two connectors - one at 
a time - from one set of wires to another to allow the trolley buses to change 
route. I always got the impression the massive long pole used was bamboo but it

Tsk! The plural of "bus" is "buses". "Busses" is the plural of
"buss", which has very little to do with carrying passengers
(although, pace Mr Flanders, both of them might involve a transport of
delight)..
