Belatedly joining in on Martin's remark about Manchester race course that
"The former Manchester racecourse is now part of Salford Quays." followed by Trevor's link to the last known Manchester race course . www.greyhoundderby.com/Manchester%201961.htm then Martin said he meant the original Manchester race course!.... But Castle Irwell was the original. I think Martin meant the New Barns course by the MSC (and now the site of the Lowry Theatre); New Barns was used when the Castle Irwell course fell into the hands of someone opposed to gambling. All according to: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mossvalley/mv1/manchester- racecourse.html (and my daughter went to Salford Uni, and I never realised the Students' Union at Castle Irwell was the old grandstand!) And MSC-owners Peel Holdings now want a new racecourse: http://www.peel.co.uk/peelholdings/newsstories/newssalfordforest.html Steve
