Yes, this sort of thing is where I could use some help. Google maps
needs latitude and longitude with resolution to at least .0001 degrees
to truly pinpoint a location. Since most of my latitude and
longitude numbers were generated from postcodes, the positions are
often somewhat off.

So I would certainly appreciate people helping to refine the lat/long
numbers. The text file with my current lat/long values is available
at:

http://www.canals.com/england-wales-hire-locns.txt

The first two values, with a "|" in between them, are the lat/long.
These can be pasted into the entry box at maps.google.com. Just
replace the "|" with a comma, and hit search. Then zoom in in
satellite mode.

Then I would twiddle with the numbers. .0001 degree of latitude is roughly
36 feet on the ground, .0001 degree of longitude somewhat less. (I've just
realized that Google Earth shows the lat/long of wherever one points the
cursor, so that would be a bit simpler. But Google Earth is a 14.3MB
download.)

Of course, unless you're personally familiar with the location of the base,
they can be difficult to pinpoint, as there may be a number of moored
boats about. Also, the age of the images can be a factor as well, if
the base is relatively new.

As for the data the way it stands now, only Castle Narrowboats and
Narrowboat Zinfandel (my last year's hires) are completely accurate.
The rest I was initially satisfied as long as the location was next
to a canal.

So any help with refining the lat/long will be greatly appreciated.
