In our Sainsbury's it is us on TV. We now even have CCTV in the stores
toilets. After seeing a notice to that effect stuck to the door this week on
entering both annex and gents proper I found the cameras (which are about smoke
detector size and shape). In our shop
they are sited to give a good view inside the gents through the open door of
the cubicles and also show the backs of gents using the other facilities -
meaning one now has to remember where the camera is at all times and not step
back unbuttoned!
I understand, from a friend who works in Sainsbury's, that the cameras were
installed in response to an incident last year when unaccompanied minor using
the toilets in a different Sainsbury's was found in distress. The media outcry
this caused has persuaded Sainsbury's to install toilet CCTV cameras in their
stores.
