I don't see the point in differentiating between "wide" and "broad" or 
whatever. In most, if not all, contexts I think that it is perfectly 
clear what width of boat people are referring to.

I always hear of "widebeam narrowboat" as in the wider than 7ft 
narrowboat style boats very rarely have I heard the term "broadbeam 
narrowboat".
