Anne is right that the Pulteney Weir moorings are the prettiest - I think the charge is about GBP6 - but they can be noisy and are far from private. Sue's recommendation about turning downstream from the canal and going on the north bank near the car park is a sound one - you may have to clamber through the railings, but it's just as handy for the city centre and reasonably quiet at night. The moorings above the Widcombe flight are good and free - but restricted to 48hr and usually full by mid-afternoon. A footpath from the southern end leads under a railway bridge straight into North Parade - very handy for the best bits of Bath. If you get that far and don't want to go down to the river you can wind either just above the top lock [50 ft max] or by going down two locks and winding in the pound between locks 11 and 12. Or reverse to Bath Narrowboats which has a full length winding hole opposite. In either case there are usually plenty of moorings east of the two mini-tunnels - those nearest to town are 72hrs but there are some 14 day beyond. Don't be put off by the proximity of the railway when you look at the map - it's about 30 feet lower than the canal and the noise is quite tolerable. Bath Narrowboats is a good servicing point - a friendly lot - but you can't get a pump-out on a Sunday because the occupants of the adjoining McCarthy and Stone flats have objected to the smell of poo on the Sabbath.
